"When we are no longer able to change a situation - we are challenged to change ourselves." Carl Rogers
Counselling is also known as a talking therapy, together we can look at the thoughts and feelings that are preventing you from making changes to enable you to move on with your life. Counselling can be life changing and empowering.
Change is never easy, taking the first step can be daunting. You may want to change a situation, make sense of the past and release it's hold on you. I will be there to support and encourage you and always at your own pace.
I am an Integrative Counsellor which means I use different counselling approaches to suit your needs. I have experience working with adults, children and young people. Person Centred Theory (PCT) is at the core of my work putting you at the centre of the counselling process; it is about your own thoughts and feelings and not the counsellor's. I am not here to give you advice or tell you what to do, I am here to help you to explore and make sense of whatever concerns you may have.
I also have a Diploma in Creative Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). We can experience life more positively and creatively if we think in a healthy way. Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) helps people understand the links between thoughts, feelings and behaviour. I will work with you to identify the thoughts, attitudes and beliefs that are associated with particular difficulties and to discover if there are other, more realistic and helpful ways, of seeing things.
I am informed by other approaches including Mindfulness, Gestalt, Transactional Analysis, Motivational Enhancement Therapy, Psychodynamic, Relaxation and Visualisation Techniques and Inner Child Work.
Occasionally in our work together, I will ask you to write a journal or diary or your thoughts and feelings in between sessions. Also I could give you relaxation techniques to practice. These exersises can be helpful but it is always your choice to do this. Some of the issues I work with: Abuse Addictions Anger Management Anxiety Bereavement Depression Grief and Loss Low Self Confidence Low Self Esteem Relationship Problems Stress Substance Misuse Trauma Work Related Issues
